What is a “Holistic” Psychologist?

Holistic

Perhaps this is a bit of a buzz word these days, but when you look at the definition, it's hard to find a more succinct way to describe the ethos that underpins my personal and professional perspective.

Psychology has traditionally focused on understanding the mind, particularly how it's function impacts behaviour. Whilst I am trained in and practice the predominant evidence-based ("top down") cognitive therapies I have also been fortunate to be entering this field in a time when somatic practices and parts work are gaining a greater evidence-base and so can be brought in to my practice, to allow for a complimentary "ground up" approach.

By incorporating both top down and ground up therapeutic approaches, I aim to support my clients to rebuild the mind-body connection as a way of coming to understand themselves and their interconnected parts. All the while holding a deep sense of unconditional positive regard, and seeing them as the whole, unbroken beings that we all truly are.

I would love to hear what approach has worked best for you in therapy? Or is it a combination of approaches? Jump over to our Instagram account to join the conversation.
